"Introducing Douglas Adams"
Douglas Adams was a treasure to those of us who like to laugh. His most famous work
was his "Trilogy", which contains FIVE books: "The Hitchhiker's Guide To The Galaxy".
Reading those books were five of the best times I've ever had! And I meant that
exclamation point. Great humorists add much to the world, "cheering us all up",
as Winston Churchill put it.
If you think you would benefit from a lot of fun, go out and get his books.
If you're like me, you'll try one and you're hooked. His books aren't as easy to find
as some, but your library can get them for you.
Douglas Adams died yesterday of a heart attack at the age of 49. I got the word
from our friend Jerry Withers about an hour ago, and this is what I wrote back:
The passing of Douglas Adams is bleak news. I echo your perfect remark:
"So long, and thanks for all the fish." from his title.
I loved the guy. He made me happy. He made me laugh out loud in the middle of the
night. He kidnapped my mind away from my problems. He will always be a hero to me.
An all time great humorist that the general public will not know, but we do.
I wish I could channel him and add more books to the trilogy. I plan to read
all his works again soon. Maybe that will help.
